Post

First off, it is disturbing how many of my posts appear at times when the sane world is sleeping....

Secondly, I have discovered a rare jewel, a gem if you will of knowledge this week. It all started about a week and a half ago. The sniffling, the sneezing, the coughing, the snoring (yes, Carsen does indeed take after his dad). Things pretty much went downhill from there. I told myself, "you don't need to take the kids to the Doctor, every other time you have taken them in, it is a hassle. You have to get dressed, look somewhat presentable, which takes effort when everyone has been wallowing in sick and ick for a few days. Also, it costs $20, which, admittedly is not that much, thankfully our insurance is pretty good, but still, that is like 2.2 24 packs of Coke. Then you have to deal with the kids at the Doctor's office, which usually consists of Carsen not wanting to leave the fish tank, then hiding anywhere he can in the exam room, it is amazing how he can almost disappear, and Raegan having the worst diaper in days just as the Doctor comes in. Then after all of that, yep, just as you thought, a virus. Go home, thanks for coming in, good luck, have a sucker, I am going to charge your insurance as much as I can, etc..." So after that wonderful inner pep talk I just make everyone lay down for mandatory rest time, which is more for me than the kids. So we are all sick, I have NO voice, I can barely croak out two words, when I notice Carsen's eye is flaming red. I took a deep breath, looked again, I was hoping the double shot of cough medicine was to blame, but no luck, fire engine red eyeball.

So I called the doctor, which was interesting, with my croaky voice and cranky kids in the background, amazingly enough she got what I was saying and, lucky me there was an appointment in an HOUR! Yay! We are all in pajamas, Raegan is still in bed, it takes 20 minutes to get into Salt Lake to the Doctor, yikes! We made it, well, we were 10 minutes late, but we got there. The diagnosis, Conjunctivitis, or pinkeye, and a double ear infection (which he had not ever really complained about), and Raegan got a freebee lookover and had a little ear redness. So we were off to the pharmacy for 2 antibiotics and eyedrops.

I know you are wondering about the jewel, in fact gem that I was talking about earlier, wait, it is coming. So everything is going pretty well, the kids are perking up, the eye drop business is definitely not my favorite, but it is working out ok. I am still sick however, but I don't feel bad enough to warrant a trip to the InstaCare, I have a whole other inner dialog that I will spare you, but it is similar to the sick kids one I already talked about. So it gets to be Friday and I feel like crap, no voice coughing up a lung, generally feeling horrible. My body decides at like, 12:30am to turn on me, coughing, coughing so hard I gag, until like 5am. I got about 2 hours of sleep, then I was super busy on Saturday and didn't even get mandatory rest time!

By the time we get the kids to bed, I am EXHAUSTED! Steve was working in the yard spreading compost on our flower beds. At about 9pm just as he was finishing up he turns to me and says, "Lets get a movie!" We NEVER get movies, or really just hang out, so I decided I would suck it up and enjoy a night with my husband. So we watched Juno, which is awesome! I haven't laughed that much at a movie in a long time! We got to bed about midnight, and again with the coughing!

Sunday morning we wake up and I glance in the mirror to see what I would have to work with and I noticed that my eyeball had decided to take on a rosy color. "Crap, Steve, when does InstaCare open?"

Here it comes, the amazing tidbit of knowledge you have all been waiting for...InstaCare is open 9am-9pm 7 days a week, and Sunday mornings, when you roll in at 9:42 am, you get to leave at 10:16 am with 5 prescriptions! All for you! Yes, if you must fight your inner dialog and break down to go to the InstaCare, go Sunday morning. Here is the challenge though... break my record of 34 minutes, 5 prescriptions, that is 1 prescription for every 6 minutes 48 seconds I was there. Yeah.

Most Disgusting Few Moments of My Life

Today I had the pleasure of experiencing the MOST DISGUSTING thing ever, courtesy or Raegan. I put her down for her morningish nap, she and Carsen were playing so well this morning we were late putting her down. So she went down pretty well. I jumped in the shower, about 15 minutes later I got out and heard Raegan crying. This is not uncommon, she sometimes gets really irritated that Carsen doesn't take a nap.

I threw on a robe and went to listen at her door, which was closed. Her door has to be closed when she sleeps because she is the lightest sleeper in the world. Back to the story. I got about two steps away from her door and realized there was an aroma coming from her room. Not a good aroma. I thought, well, she messed her diaper and is crying because she needs a new one. I also thought, WOW, this is STRONG! So I opened her door.

She looked both relieved to see me and super guilty at the same time. I turned the light on and realized changing a diaper was not the problem I was going to have to deal with. She had already removed the diaper. Prior to pooping. The diaper was in pristine condition....that was about the only thing in pristine condition. Poo was pretty much everywhere. I was grossed out by this, but Carsen had accomplished the same feat a couple of times, so I knew it was manageable. As I surveyed the damage, I noticed a couple of things, first Raeggie was crying, a cry I hadn't heard before, and she only stopped crying every few seconds to say UH-OH UH-OH. The other thing that I noticed was that the poo smears were not only all over her bed, toys, blankets, etc, but they were all over her. ALL OVER HER! When she looked up at me I saw that they were all over her face!!!!! What part of her face you ask? Well, specifically her mouth. Yes, her mouth! I don't know for sure but all indications point to the fact that Raegan ate poo. Her own poo. I was so shocked and revolted that I didn't take pictures, and I am a little glad that I didn't.

One good thing that came out of this mess, is that I now know babies can eat their own poop and really nothing will ever happen to them, as for their parents, I pretty much think I am going to be scarred for life...well at least for the next few days. I still shudder, and it has been about 2 hours... Another good thing that came out of this is I am sure that the nurses at the Bryner Clinic are getting a good laugh...
