Any thoughts?
Raegan has been teething lately, she is currently getting 4 teeth...so we get the happy bonus of crankiness, stuffy nose, and terrible diapers. The terrible diapers result in terrible diaper rash. My question to you is, what diaper rash remedies have worked for you? I stick with my Desitin, mostly because I think it works pretty well. I have a hard time switching to another brand because I don't want to try something that doesn't work...but then I am caught wondering...Is there something out there that works better? Am I missing something? Any comments would be appreciated!

You do not cease to fish because you get old, You get old because you cease to fish
So Carsen, Raegan, Grandma Judy and Grandpa Steve went with Melissa and I to the Cold Creek Trout Farm in Ogden. It's a small family run trout farm. It's great cause Carsen is GOING to catch a fish, and with the flies we use...those trout don't have a chance! The only camera we had was Carsen's little digital camera. So we got some pics...some were even taken by him!
While Carsen's 6 fish were being cleaned...we went down to the catch and release pond where the monsters were. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves...

Carsen's First fish of the day! Unlike last year...he wasn't afraid of touching the fish, infact he almost went to kiss one!

This is the bucket that Carsen kept his catch in, 6 in all! Several of which he cast, fish and landed all on his own!

Raegan wasn't nearly as in love with the fish as her brother. She wouldn't even touch them. And when this particular fish turned it's head and looked at her, she wanted NOTHING to do with it!

This is a photo by Carsen.

This is the monster that Grandpa caught on his new fly rod.

Taking a bite out of crime one apple at a time!
Tonight was family yard night (see how we combined family night with working in the yard?). We were all outside working/playing in the yard! It was pretty fantastic, Steve and I were able to get a ton done and the kids played with chalk and just had fun in the beautiful summer night.
We put the kids to bed at about 9pm and continued our project, we wanted to get it totally done! About 9:30 we were hard at work and we heard this car racing down the hill and screeching around the corner of the street just across the street and up one house. We, well, at least I thought, "jerk! There are kids in this neighborhood!" As soon as I thought that a cop came screeching around the corner with his lights blazing. Instantly I realized that the, "jerk" car was trying to outrace the cop and not get a ticket. I also realized that the cop would think that the car went straight, so Steve and I start waving and pointing to show him where the guy went. He zoomed past us, but saw us and screeched to a stop, flipped around and went on the chase. About 2 minutes later we saw him come out of the street (which has 2 circles and no outlets). He drove over to talk to us and we told him that the car had gone down that street, so he went back in, this time with his lights off.
About 5 minutes later, another cop came screaming up the street and turned down the same street. We knew this spelled trouble for the "jerk" car. We kept a sharp/nosy eye out for any other action in the area. After about 20 minutes Steve and Bailey (our puppy) went on a recon mission, I mean walk over to see what was going on.
I saw the "jerk" car leave about two minutes later, very slowly, coming to complete stops, turn signals etc... Steve and Bailey returned about 5 minutes later.
This is Steve's report... Well we went on a "Jog" (walks are for wusses...and old people) up around the street. Let me describe this road. It's not long at all maybe from intersection to end 300 yards. It ends in a Cul-De Sac and has one other Cul-De-Sac that comes off of it half way down. Grand total there are only 15 houses that he could be at. It borders Bountiful Golf Course and there is ABSOLUTELY no exit...ANYWHERE!!!
As Bailey and I jogged by we looked down the first Cul-De-Sac and saw our Bountiful City Police officer...Officer Friendly, in his SUV lights going spot lights on. All pointed at a teenage kid sitting on the curb. Behind him was Officer Friendly's Sgt...We'll call him Sgt Friendly.
Bailey and I passed by ran to the end of the street and then walked back. By this time the kid was getting back into his car. A car FULL of teenage kids...and he drove off, very very slowly...and law abidingly, followed soon after by the Sgt. I approached Officer Friendly to thank him. I told him once I had been that kid, and the only reason I didn't get a ticket is because the Police officer I sped by on 13th ave one night at 74 MPH, was bending down to pick up his coffee and by the time he looked up...I was gone. I told the Officer that now that I had 2 kids, a house and a dog, my point of view had changed quite a bit and I thanked him. Officer Friendly then told me something kind of interesting. He was planning on only giving this kid a warning. He was only going 40 MPH, in a 35 zone, but because he evaded, it became a speeding ticket, reckless driving (squealing around the corner at 40 mph), and evading.
One side note...I have met Officer Friendly twice before, both on a "Professional Basis." Once because someone blew out a car's windshield with a BB gun in the middle of the night, and the other time, I met Officer Friendly at the end of his gun...but that's another story.

I am STOKED
We get to go to the Doctor again today, but the special bonus prize is that Raegan gets to go too (18 month check-up). I know she is almost 21 months, but my earlier appointment got canceled and they bumped us a month and a half! But even better than that I get to deal with more tests for Carsen and Raegan gets shots....if only I drank.....today would surely be a sloshy day!

Hang on it's going to be a bumpy ride!
Carsen has been not feeling well since last Thursday. He has been ok in the day, but having terrible fevers at night. I think, well, it is a cold or something simple, it will go away. Yesterday I get a little worried, so I call the doctor, talk to the nurse, and she says, give it one more night, and if he is still sick, come in tomorrow.
Steve and I are playing the new WiFit (which warrants a whole other blog post about how cool it is) last night and Carsen comes in about midnight and is BURNING UP! At least 104! I have this little temperature tape thing that goes on the forehead, not super accurate, but is easier to get the kids to cooperate with. Yeah, the thing was pegged, or at least it was all the way to the top which is 104. So I started to get a little or a lot worried. I hemmed and hawed for a few minutes, then called my mom. She suggested calling the ER to see what they thought. So we called, and they called the pediatrician's answering service. So poor Dr. Gardiner called me back, in like 5 minutes, at 1am!
We talked for a few minutes and decided to have Carsen go in first thing to be checked out, since he had had a fever for 6 nights in a row. We get to the doctor's office at about 9:30 am. We left at 11:30am!
Here is what happened
showed up
watched a fish die
snuggled
watched the dead fish
snuggled some more
almost fell asleep
got called back to the room
waited
colored
snuggled some more
talked to the doctor
got a strep culture
waited
waited
went to go to the bathroom, which was occupied
waited for the bathroom
gave up on waiting for the bathroom and went back to the room
found out it was not strep
found out we needed more tests
found out the tests involved taking blood and urine
felt guilty walking Carsen to the lab
told him why we were there
took him to the bathroom to get the urine sample
explained I was NOT going to get the urine sample with a needle!
cleaned up some pee
went to the lab
tried to calm a screaming kicking 4 year-old
held him while they drew 3 things of blood
snuggled
walked back to the room
waited
told Carsen we couldn't go home yet
waited
made glove finger faces with a latex glove and marker
tried to make him laugh
talked to the doctor again
found out Carsen has Mononucleosis...yeah
found out that it is rare for young kids to have it
got Carsen 2 stickers and a sucker
said goodbye to the dead fish
It was an eventful 2 hours...I wish it wasn't so eventful! I feel so bad for him! He is trying to be a good boy, but it is so hard! The other sad thing is that there really isn't anything they can do for it other than Tylenol and ibuprofen.

My New Favorite
Lately I have been enamored with Cayenne Pepper. It is my new favorite spice! I love that you can put it in most things, and in small quantities it adds such great flavor and a little zing! I first added it to some deviled eggs for Steve a few months ago, and have used it more and more since! If you haven't tried it lately, give it a whirl!

Paintball Pics

Ok...so Melissa has turned into the super blogger...I have been seriously slacking...it's not that I haven't had anything to say, I'll just chalk it up to...laziness...
As most of you know I'm on a Paintball team, Bad Karma. I even have an online paintball store, Cadmus Sports. Unfortuantly there is rarely photos taken of me playing paintball
(part of the whole thing is NOT being seen). Every once in a while there's a photographer on the field and he snaps a pic of you during a game. Well at a rescent competition, these pics were taken of me with my paintball pistol. That's me, with Zeng written on my hat.

Why me??
If you didn't already know I graduated from USU in 2002 with a BS in Interior Design. Since then I have worked full-time, and now part-time. Ever since we got married I have been receiving mailers, every couple of months or so. These mailers are addressed to Melissa Eror (my married name), and they are inviting me to attend some to some college or the other, most recently, Wesminster to get my degree. I am sure it is because I am on some list somewhere, and I should not be offended by it, but it makes me feel a little that people assume because I am the mom and I mostly stay home that I don't have any education... GRRRR! I choose to stay at home with my kids, I love work, and actually, shockingly miss it! I don't know, maybe I am just suffering from caffeine deficiency, or maybe this really bugs me. I guess the moral of the story is don't assume......you know the rest...
