Hang on it's going to be a bumpy ride!

Carsen has been not feeling well since last Thursday. He has been ok in the day, but having terrible fevers at night. I think, well, it is a cold or something simple, it will go away. Yesterday I get a little worried, so I call the doctor, talk to the nurse, and she says, give it one more night, and if he is still sick, come in tomorrow.

Steve and I are playing the new WiFit (which warrants a whole other blog post about how cool it is) last night and Carsen comes in about midnight and is BURNING UP! At least 104! I have this little temperature tape thing that goes on the forehead, not super accurate, but is easier to get the kids to cooperate with. Yeah, the thing was pegged, or at least it was all the way to the top which is 104. So I started to get a little or a lot worried. I hemmed and hawed for a few minutes, then called my mom. She suggested calling the ER to see what they thought. So we called, and they called the pediatrician's answering service. So poor Dr. Gardiner called me back, in like 5 minutes, at 1am!

We talked for a few minutes and decided to have Carsen go in first thing to be checked out, since he had had a fever for 6 nights in a row. We get to the doctor's office at about 9:30 am. We left at 11:30am!

Here is what happened
showed up
watched a fish die
snuggled
watched the dead fish
snuggled some more
almost fell asleep
got called back to the room
waited
colored
snuggled some more
talked to the doctor
got a strep culture
waited
waited
went to go to the bathroom, which was occupied
waited for the bathroom
gave up on waiting for the bathroom and went back to the room
found out it was not strep
found out we needed more tests
found out the tests involved taking blood and urine
felt guilty walking Carsen to the lab
told him why we were there
took him to the bathroom to get the urine sample
explained I was NOT going to get the urine sample with a needle!
cleaned up some pee
went to the lab
tried to calm a screaming kicking 4 year-old
held him while they drew 3 things of blood
snuggled
walked back to the room
waited
told Carsen we couldn't go home yet
waited
made glove finger faces with a latex glove and marker
tried to make him laugh
talked to the doctor again
found out Carsen has Mononucleosis...yeah
found out that it is rare for young kids to have it
got Carsen 2 stickers and a sucker
said goodbye to the dead fish

It was an eventful 2 hours...I wish it wasn't so eventful! I feel so bad for him! He is trying to be a good boy, but it is so hard! The other sad thing is that there really isn't anything they can do for it other than Tylenol and ibuprofen.
